Set against the backdrop of the 1960s in Chicago this film documents the early years of the Cabrini Green Housing Project, the coming of a white Lutheran pastor, Reverend Frederic Downing, and the "integration and going" of an African American boy Ronald Gayles. Through personal stories, national events, and good intentions, it follows how the lives of these two exceptional men were forever altered by each other, the time period, and Cabrini Green.
